What you need to prepare
- You do not need to prepare a session plan, consent and permissions for under 18s, or printed or digital materials for teachers and families
- These will be provided by Hackit as part of the toolkit
Onboarding videos will appear here soon.
Ready to start?
Begin the guided onboarding flow. It takes you step by step through watching the videos, setting up your teams, planning outreach and collecting community views. You can pause and come back any time.
It takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You can skip steps and come back to them later.
Safeguarding and safety when out in the community
Your safety and the safety of the people you meet come first. If anything feels unsafe or concerning, stop, step back and raise it. You do not need to be certain to ask for help.
Street outreach safety checklist
- Work in pairs where possible
- Choose public, well lit locations
- Keep personal belongings secure
- Agree a check in time with your partner
- Do not enter private homes or secluded spaces
- End conversations politely if someone becomes distressed or angry
Boundaries and consent
- Introduce yourself and the purpose in one sentence
- Ask permission before recording any audio or video
- Do not pressure anyone to take part
- Avoid collecting names, addresses, dates of birth or contact details
Escalation routes
- If there is immediate danger call 999
- If you are worried about a child or vulnerable adult, stop the activity and follow the escalation steps below
- Log a concern as soon as possible with time, location and what you observed, without personal identifiers
